Name origin: Named in honor of Thomas Sterry Hunt (1826-1892), chemist and a pioneer of Canadian mineralogy. Hunt was the first chemist and later mineralogist on the staff of the Geological Survey of Canada, and the coauthor of Geology of Canada (1863).
