Name origin: Named for its close relation to pierrotite, which was named after Roland Pierrot (14 May 1930, Guéret, Creuse, Nouvelle-Aquitaine, France - 9 November 1998, Orléans, Loiret, Centre-Val de Loire, France), a French mineralogist. He was Head of the Mineralogy Department and General Secretary of the National Geographical Service at BRGM (French Geological Survey).
