Name origin:
Named in H. Forir and A. Jorissen in 1880 in honor of Mr. Pierre Destinez [died 7 April 1911 in Liège], a laboratory assistant at the University of Liège, Liège, Belgium. Destinez was a member of the Société Géologique de Belgique as early as 1886 and published a number of articles on paleontological subjects as late as 1904.
