Name origin: Named by Lars Johann Igelstrom [February 10, 1822 Yngshyttan, Sweden - May 15, 1897 Gräs, Sunnemo parish, Värmland, Sweden] in 1888 for its arsenic content, and the Greek πλείων ("pleion") for "more", in allusion to the fact that it adds to the number of related minerals already described.
