Name origin:
Named in 1983 by Pete J. Dunn and Donald Ralph Peacor for its discovery locality, the Sterling Mine in the Wallkill Dell (Wallkill Valley), Ogdensburg, New Jersey, USA. No suffix for the manganese dominance was added by the IMA. Any entries that use "-(Mn)" are in error.
