Name origin:
Named after Emiliano Zapata (1879-1919), peasant hero of the Mexican revolution. He was the Mexican rebel leader who stated that "It is better to die on your feet than to live on your knees." He was a former sharecropper who organized and led peasants during the battles of the Mexican Revolution.
